The Great Arlington Music Programs Tag Sale Results!!
The 2nd Annual Giant Arlington Band Tag Sale raised $3204.85 in one day of fast paced wheeling and dealing. Arlington Band Boosters volunteers took over the front parking lot on August 29 - 30 for the sale. Additional items are being sold still, and the clothes drive will add a significant number to that total. Thank you all for your donations of time and goods, and next year we will see you again!
39TH ANNUAL ARLINGTON MARCHING BAND INVITATIONAL!!
It's definitely that time of year again!! Planning is underway and before you know it, it will be time for the 39th Annual Arlington Marching Band Invitational! This year the Invitational will be held at 1PM, Sunday, October 12, 2014!!
The Arlington Invitational is the premier marching band competition in the Hudson Valley. We host bands from around the tri-state area in a day of music, pageantry and festivities all set against the beautiful fall foliage background of the Arlington High School Stadium. The Invitational is sponsored, organized and staffed by Arlington Band Boosters and Arlington Marching Band, and the funds raised are used to support a wide range of Arlington High School band programs.
Bands that have already signed up for this year's competition include: Brentwood, Copiague, Huntington, Kingston, Mahopac, Malverne, Mineola, Nyack, Suffern, White Plains, and of course...Arlington!
We need more than 180 volunteers to make the 39th Annual Arlington Marching Band Invitational a success. There are many activities you can help us with, and many options that can fit your schedule and the amount of time you can share! Please take a moment and volunteer to help here. Yes all Band and Jazz parents can volunteer! If you have any questions please send them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
From The President
Wow!! It’s hard to believe we’re at the start of the school year already! I’m very excited to watch, listen, attend and enjoy this year’s schedule of band concerts, marching band competitions, winter guard shows, jazz fests and the indoor percussion ensemble – to name a few!!
In a time when neighboring districts struggle to keep band programs going, it truly is a testament to how special the Arlington Music program really is that our children get instruction in a wide range of music genres with multiple ensembles that help our children continue to grow and to fall more in love with the art of making music.
None of this would be possible without the support of the district, the teachers, the parents and the Arlington Band Boosters. It’s been a busy summer for the Boosters, and throughout this newsletter you’ll read about the volunteers who supported the 2-week marching band camp, some of the highlights for the coming school year and a variety of great activities!
What is a band booster? The official definition says all parents of band students at the high school are members. I think it is that and more. It’s the alumni who come back and attend the events and applaud. It’s the grandparents who show up in huge numbers to cheer. It’s parents, family, neighbors and friends who purchase tickets that help fund activities. And it is businesses and organizations in our community that support the Arlington Bands through sponsorship and advertising. And it is the volunteers that perform countless tasks – sewing flags, setting up chairs at concerts, chaperoning trips, arranging food for guest conductors, or dragging 120-pound blocks of concrete on and off a football field – that are the heart of Arlington Band Boosters.
And that’s where we need your help. Simply, we need more parents to get involved. Please join us on September 9 at 7:00 PM in the High School Chorus Room for our General Membership meeting to hear more about the programs and activities this year where you can lend a hand. I’ve heard we’ll be serving coffee and the famous Apple Crisp that is such a hit at the Invitational to all the parents who attend the September meeting!!

Marching Band Camp Fun on Cookie Friday
Thank you to our wonderful marching band camp coordinator, Tammy Richards. She and her volunteers made sure that there were drinks and snacks available for our hot and hungry kids. In addition, she made sure there were volunteers to provide lunch for the hard-working camp staff each day. Tammy's daughter is graduating this year, and we are looking for someone to continue this wonderful program next year! It is great way to get to know the kids, and meet other parents. Talk to any board member if you are interested.

Welcome to the 2014 - 2015 school year for Arlington Music…and specifically, ARLINGTON BAND!
For those families returning to the program, WELCOME BACK! For the new families, WELCOME to what we hope will be an amazing 4 year journey for your family. The Arlington Band family is an amazing place to be and an exceptional thing to be a part of. I encourage you all to dive in and take advantage of all there is to offer. Get involved as much as you can, both students and parents.
Our concert ensembles -Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band/Concert Band - are the foundation of the Arlington High School Band Program. The many varied co-curricular ensembles and other music classes are offered to students to supplement the basic concert band experience. Marching Band, Jazz Ensembles, small ensembles, color guard, etc. are all by-products of our cherished concert band program. I encourage you and your child to get involved in as many aspects of our program as possible!
Over the first few days of school, A LOT of information will be handed out and sent home with our students. PLEASE be sure you read and sign all of this information so you can be completely aware of the rules, regulations, and expectations set forth for all our band students. Also be sure to check out the Music Department Calendar on Music Department web page so you can get all the events that matter to you and your student on your calendar! PLEASE BE SURE YOU COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR CHILD’S BAND DIRECTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS!
COMMUNICATION IS KEY - please be sure you and your child communicate with your child’s band director. Please be sure we have the most up to date and accurate contact information (names, addresses, phone numbers, and, most importantly, EMAIL ADDRESSES). Please be sure your information is in our CHARMS system.
Be sure to visit our Arlington Marching Band website: www.arlingtonband.com. Then go to the Charms login link and for school code enter “arlingtonhighband”. You will be directed from there. If you are new to Charms, please be sure to see your band director so your information can be entered.
Finally, PARENTS - BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE ARLINGTON BAND BOOSTERS AND GET INVOLVED! This amazing organization is for YOU and ALL PARENTS of students in the band program. http://www.arlingtonbandboosters.com/

Welcome to the Arlington High School 9th Grade Band
With over 125 students entering the band program at Arlington High School, we are thrilled to begin the new year! An exciting year of music has been planned for the 9th Grade Band, headed by its directors Mr. Darrell Keech and Mr. David Regner, and assisted by a new student-teacher from Ithaca College, Ms. Teresa Diaz.
Once the school year begins, students in the 9th Grade Band will go through an audition process that will place each student into the appropriate 9th Grade Band: 9K (led by Mr. Keech) and 9R (led by Mr. Regner). The audition process is very simple, and takes about five minutes total to complete. Described very briefly:
Mr. Keech and Mr. Regner can be contacted with any questions via email at either email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Do you have a question and don't know where to get the answer? Is there something you have always wanted to know, but didn't want to ask? Need advice on how to be "one of those crazy Arlington band parents"? You are not alone! Each issue, Dear ABBI shares questions from the parents and community and offers advice, answers and amusement. If your question isn't answered here please use the form below to submit your question and we will try to answer it in the next issue (or sooner)!
Matching Funds, You Bet
Dear ABBI: Will you accept matching funds from companies that the families work for? Signed, Trying to help
Dear Help: Yes we do. If your company you work for (or other family members work for) has a matching program please consider it. I know as a family we are constantly paying for something (shirts, buttons) but if we can get matching grants it will decrease the overall cost we incur for our kids to participate in all the great band programs. So please look in to the matching grants at your company. Inquire about their community outreach and see if we qualify. We are a 501© 3 non for profit. It cannot hurt and you are supporting our kids!!!!!!
Also look to see if your business will become a “sponsor” to ABBI. Even though the dead line has passed for the Business ads we can take sponsor all year long. So please look up the form and ask. It cannot hurt.
Welcome back to another great school year but now that we have all rested this summer now the real fun begins. Out 40th invitational is about to begin. We need all the help we can get from bakers, to getting food donations for the judges, band hospitality and my person favorite 50/50. Where can you dress up for the kids to collect funds and embarrass your child all in the same 4 hours? So if you were afraid to volunteer because you were unsure now is the time. Come to our General Booster Meeting and see where you can help. We are asking for a few hours not your entire life.
Be a 2014-2015 Contributor!
The Contributor Program allows for a direct contribution to the band program. Donors are published in subsequent newsletters for the school year and the Guest Conductor program in March.
Your donations to the program are tax-deductible and eligible for matching grants. If your employer has a matching grants program, we encourage you to submit a matching grants form with your donation to ABBI.
